“This is what makes us girls,
We don’t look for heaven and we put our love first”
- This is what makes us girls, Lana Del Ray
As I sit with you two,
Discussing the profundity of K3G’s Poo,
Woolf’s thought fish catches up to me and says,
These are your girls, you don't need no woke baes.
In retrospect,
It sounded a lot like Bell,
So I sit with Mumma,
She makes a cuppa,
And says,
I miss the JNU bus in a haze,
Nana didn't want me to go,
This is why I scold you so.
I imagine a girl,
Giving up a world,
Because her father said so,
And no,
I couldn't do the same
I feel no shame.
There are all these girls around me,
A little smart, a little sweet, a little chubby.
I do wish I could spread my love like confetti,
A shield against every basic, every moti.
I do love my girls.
A little differently than my boys.
My love for them is calm,
Like a blanket really, or a balm -
Ready to wrap them in the warmth of my embrace,
Every time they fall from grace.
