He said, “Write me villanelle dark and deep.”
Verses dipped in blood and gore
I have lines to own before I sleep.
Now where are all the rhymes I seek?
Did Dylan use them for the rage he’d show?
He said, “Write me villanelle dark and deep.”
Write of desperation but what of Gauri?
The saffron wrath forbids me to mourn.
I have lines to own before I sleep.
"Equality for all", wrote the bloody commie
The bullet disagreed, says, there will be more
He said, “Write me villanelle dark and deep.”
The ones with the guns tell us to speak
And shoot when silence is let go,
I have lines to own before I sleep.
Let’s walk through this fire in holocaust heels
To show our mettle as the next Micheaux
He said, “Write me villanelle dark and deep”
I have lines to own before I sleep.
I really liked the use of contemporary examples and loved the use of "Write me a villanelle, dark and deep" in the poem. I found the last tercet the most poignant and it works beautifully with the rest of the poem.
ReplyDeleteI really like the line “I have lines to own before I sleep”. It is as though everything written in the poem rests on this one line.
